Since 1987, Architectural Openings, Inc. has been designing, manufacturing,
installing and servicing our technologically advanced, beautifully crafted, premium
exterior window, door and curtain wall products.
The team at AO is a one-stop resource for information about fenestration and ways to tighten up building envelopes:
extremely well read and plugged-in, they maintain friendly relationships with vendors and competitors all over the
industry – in the US and in Europe.
From single entry doors and replacement windows, to 20,000+ sq. ft. glass houses, AO’s windows, doors and glass
walls are being used in some of the most weather-challenged environments and for some of the most creative, glass-
intensive projects. Each AO product is custom-made. Sustainably harvested lumber is shaped on state–of-the-art
machinery. With tolerances of <1mm, units are then assembled using: sophisticated multi-point locking hardware,
non-petrochemical finishes and the highest quality glass (with R-values up to R-14, meeting and surpassing even
Passive House standards).
Increasingly, customers want large expanses of glass in their homes and building projects – often without fully
realizing the long-term energy and maintenance ramifications. AO’s design team understands best practices and
collaborates with customers to provide fenestration products optimized for comfort, stability and endurance. High-end
builders and architects rely upon AO not only for designing and manufacturing beautiful, durable products, but also for
successfully producing the “big and the strange." Recent projects include: a 70’ wide pocket door system, 9’ tall
curved lift & slide door for a Maine oceanfront home, four-corner opening glass lift & slide doors and operable window
walls for a New York City penthouse.
To obtain the kind of craftsmanship, design complexity and durability that Architectural Openings, Inc. brings to it’s
products, most architects, builders and homeowners believe they would have to turn to a European company. Not so.
AO manufactures right here in Somerville, MA.
